In the IBF featherweight title fight between Josh Warrington and Kid Galahad, Warrington was able to defend his title for the second time with a split decision victory.
Warrington was able to defend his title in front of the home crowd in Leeds at the First Direct Arena. He won over Galahad by split decision victory as he was scored 116-113 and 115-112 by two judges while third favored Galahad with a score of 115-113.
Galahad was nimble in the fight as he evaded many of Warrington’s punches but the defending champion upped his efforts in the coming rounds to give Galahad the first defeat of his 27th professional fight.
Warrington said, “I knew it was close but you cannot expect to come to a champion’s home turf and expect to win a title fight just like that. He was certainly clever by the way he was fighting and placed me under a lot of pressure. I was very tensed and got carried with it all.”
Galahad, the mandatory challenger switched his fighting stances many times in the fight but Warrington finished the 2nd round with his combination and forced his opponent to be backed up with 2 straight left punches.
Leed’s crowd was fired up momentarily after Warrington rocked Galahad in the 5th round with strong right.
The pair traded equal blows for the the few rounds before Warrington again managed to hurt his opponent with a left punch to the head during the 10th.
Galahad held his ground until the last round but was not able to score a win.
