In the monstrous rematch between the champ Deontay Wilder and Luis Ortiz held in Las Vegas, Wilder sent a powerful message to his other opponents with a knockout win to retain the WBC Heavyweight crown.
Prior to winning in the 7th round, Wilder was losing on points in each round. He then made a hammering punch out of nowhere to end the rematch in a sudden moment to retain his title of WBC Heavyweight champion.
This latest explosive win for Deontay Wilder came only2 weeks before Anthony Joshua is planning to regain his titles of IBF, WBO, and WBA from the current holder of these titles Andy Ruiz Jr. in a rematch that will be held on December 7th.
Wilder, with this win, is now undefeated in his last 43 fights and also has won 10 title defense fights. His pans ahead are to fight against Tyson Fury in February of 2020 as the attention of the boxing world falls over the Andy Ruiz Jr. VS AJ match.
For the first half of the fight, Deontay Wilder’s hopes to win the match dangled in danger as he got a brutal pounding from Ortiz.
40 years old Ortiz came close to winning the WBC title from Deontay Wilder last year after he hurt the champion but then lost abruptly lie now in the 10th round. This time he was able to mount up score points from the ringside judges as he moved closer to a victory that slipped suddenly.
Deontay Wilder failed to find his rhythm in the first few rounds and was wary until 4th round to throw in punches at Ortiz. By the 5th round, Deontay Wilder was looking concerned and the round ended with Ortiz landing a right punch to Wilder’s left side.
Then came the fated 7th round in which Deontay Wilder produced a devastating punch that landed a spot on Ortiz and he fell backward onto the canvas. He was knocked out as he could not even make the referee’s count.
