The fifth title defense fight for Kal Yafai for his WBA’s Super flyweight title belt was a complete win for him over Norbelto Jimenez held at Rohde Island. Yafai won the fight by points decision.
Yafai, the longest standing British champion was able to completely dominate his opponent and the 119-107, 118-108 and 117-109 clearly showed his prowess in the ring as he retained his belt.
After defeating his mandatory challenger, Yafai now shows his interest in taking on a major fight in the division of 115lbs.
After sizing up each other for a while in the opening rounds, both fighters started feeling each other with their punches and t was Yafai who was actually taking the front foot of the fight.
Yafai made use of his speed as he forced his opponent to guard more and more into the fight with his combinations to make up for the sloppy opening round.
As for Jimenez, despite showing the grit and fast-paced moves in the opener, he never stood a chance against the WBA Champ as he took a hit and fell in the third round.
The 4th again saw Yafai landing a crisp right to Jimenez and the 30 years old Yafai starting to let his guard down to deliver a beating to his opponent. As for challenger, he was clearly in a tough spot as his guard was being breached more and more time.
In the fifth, both fighters clashed their heads that resulted in the blood to spew on from Yafai’s forehead but it was not before Jimenez had one point deducted for holding.
The eighth round saw Jimenez having wobbly legs after he tasted two clubbing hooks below his belt but he also started to see some success as he too replied with his single punches.
Despite taking one hell of a beating, Jimenez held on to see the fight end but the ultimate winner of the night was the WBA King.
