At the Masters tournament, Zach Johnson had a few gasps and some chuckles after his practice swing on the No. 13 managed to clip his ball off the tee and sent the ball bouncing off of tee marker. The ball which as accidentally struck came to rest after moving a few feet right in front of Johnson.
Johnson at this accident uttered some cursing and his fellow partners of the round Ian Poulter and Matt Kuchar were both equally as surprised as the rest of the crowd at what they have witnessed.
They were all saying that they have never heard or seen anything like this in a tournament.
Thanks to rules of the Golf, Johnson was penalized for this accident.
The tee ball is considered to be played after a player intends to hit it. As in this case, Johnson accidentally hit the ball during his practice swing, he was not given any penalty.
The Rules of Golf in this case state, “A player has started a hole when he or she makes a stroke to begin the hole.” As for the stroke, it’s defined by the following statement, “the forward movement of the club made to strike the ball.”
As in this case, Johnson was not intending to strike the ball; his strike did not count as a stroke. He also had not started a hole, so he did not receive any penalty.
