Albert Almora, the outfielder of the MLB team Chicago Cubs reacted in the manner as any parent would have had if a foul ball during the Wednesday night game of Cubs VS Astros hit a 4-year-old girl sitting in the stands.
After making the foul ball, Almora who is also a father to two children placed his hands on his head in worry and soon sucked to his knees as the game was put to halt.
His teammate Jason Heyward had to put his arm around him while Joe Maddon, manager of the Cubs, had to walk out of the dugout to console him.
Despite all major league baseball teams having protected their netting around the home plate with extra netting, it still does not protect the lower bow completely.
For Almora who appeared to be crying after the foul ball had to take several minutes before he calmed down and continue at-bat. Players from both teams were shaken by this scene.
After getting struck out on the next pitch, Almora went by the stands where the child had been previously sitting.
Again he was consoled there by a security guard as he covered his face with his glove.
The ball was retrieved by a fan named David LeVasseur, who told media that the baseball had no blood spots on it. He gave the following statement,
“All we heard was screaming. We saw this dad pick up a child and run up the stairs. He took off running. I came upstairs and see the first-aid guys up there and the dad is holding the girl. She was alert, she’s conscious, she’s fine. I was just going to give somebody in the family the ball. They kind of, naturally, shook it off. I asked the first-aid guy if she was OK and he said he didn’t know.”
Cubs won the game by 2-1.
