The Friday night game of Serie A between Cagliari and Genoa ended with a win of 3-1 for Cagliari. This is the 1st win for Cagliari at home after their previous match was marred by the racist chants.
At the match there were no reports of racist chants, because earlier there had been reports of the racist fliers being distributed among the crowd at the Sardenga Arena.
The scoring sheet for Cagliari was opened by Giovanni Simeone with Cristián Zapata then scoring a goal for the host side following the equalizing goal from Genoa’s Christian Kouamé.
Finally the 3rd goal for Cagliari was scored by João Pedro during the 87th minute.
During the September 1 game of Cagliari VS Inter Milan, Romelu Lukaku’s decisive penalty kick was taunted by the monkey chants of the crowd.
These monkey chants were loud and clear to hear on the videos that were shared over the social media. However, the video in the case was not admissible and the judge of the Italian league called the evidence from the police to be insufficient for punishing Cagliari.
As for the antiracism flyers distributed at this game, they had written over them, “Help us explain to whoever might betray our values that this can’t be their stadium.”
These flyers also had a poem written over them titled, “We are Sardinians” which was written by Grazia Deledda, the winner of the Nobel Prize.
With this win, Cagliari now moves to 8th place while Genoa is at 12th place.
