Paris Saint-Germain, the French League leader was able to overcome one more shaky performance to win over Lyon by 4-2 to maintain their 12-point lead against the 2nd placed Marseille in French League.
PSG led by 3-0 after 47 minutes into the game against Lyon with these 3 goals being made due to the sloppy defense of Lyon instead of the teamwork of PSG players. The defending champions of the French League then displayed poor performance as they conceded 2 goals to Lyon in the coming 7 minutes and then one more to tie the score at 3-3.
Winger Ángel Di María, Kylian Mbappé, and Edinson Cavani; club’s top scorer scored first 3 goals for the team respectively while the 4th goal for PSG was caused after Marcal, the center for Lyon netted an own-goal.
Forward players Martin Terrier and Moussa Dembélé both rallied during the early minutes of the 2nd half to score the first 2 goals for their team.
Amidst the windy conditions at the Parc des Princes due to the Storm Ciara raging through Europe, Lyon got their shot for the first goal when Terrier’s shot went wide.
A few moments after that, Dembélé failed to capitalize on his chance as PSG counter attacked as Di María received the ball on right and kicked in on a low shot inside the goal post.
Although Lyon had their ability in the offense, their midfield was soft while their defense was weak. The 2nd goal for PSG was made on a routine log pass following Lyon’s inability to stop it.
The ball was passed from Mauro Icardi to teammate Thomas Meunier to the right who then deflected a pass to Mbappé near penalty zone and he easily kicked it past Lyon’s goalkeeper Anthony Lopes.
After 2 minutes of the halftime break, Marcal’s made his mistake of own-goal after he received a cross from Julian Draxler.
In other matches of the French League, Montpellier defeated the struggling team of Saint-Etienne by 1-0. With this, Montpellier is now at 5th place in French league standings.
