On the undercard of the Wilder VS Fury 2, the fight of Prince Charles martin VS Gerald Washington took place in Las Vegas. Prince Charles Martin was able to boost his hopes for a world title shot with his stoppage victory over Gerald Kubrat Pulev.
Martin, who is the former champion of IBF and also a rival to Anthony Joshua, landed a sneaky left during the 6th round to drop Washington that led to the sudden stoppage decision.
The fight was for the IBF eliminator, as Prince Charles martin inched in closer for having a shot to the title fight that he had previously surrendered back in 2016 to Joshua. With this victory, Prince Charles martin has become the youngest reigning champion of a heavyweight with that result.
Since his surrender to Joshua, martin has now won 5 of his last 6 fights with the only one losing to Adam Kownacki back in 2018.
Martin and Washington both shared 5 rounds against each other in the ring as they were cheered on by the Las Vegas crowd before Martin concluded the fight.
Before winning the fight, Martin had already made the underneath of Washington’s eye swell up, a former soldier of US Navy, and then he hit him with a thudding left from the southpaw stance. Despite the punishment, Washington got back up but the referee came and did not allow him to continue the fight.
Previously in his career, Washington has been stopped by fighters like Wilder, Jarrell Miller, and Kownacki.
As for Prince Charles Martin, he has boosted his chances of having a shot for the IBF title belt which will be defended by Joshua in June against Kubrat Pulev.
