Hearts, Rangers, Celtic – who will lead Premiership by end of Sunday?

The Scottish Premiership has reached its most निर्णing phase following the annual split, and the title race is now set for a dramatic conclusion. With just a handful of matches remaining, three clubs—Heart of Midlothian, Rangers, and Celtic—are separated by only three points. This razor-thin margin sets the stage for an intense battle over the coming weeks as each side aims to be crowned champions of Scotland.

The split ensures that the top six teams face one another in the final stretch of the campaign, increasing both the difficulty and significance of every fixture. With each game effectively a high-stakes encounter, consistency will be key. Interestingly, the unpredictable nature of this season has already been evident—there have been only three occasions when the top three teams all managed to win on the same weekend. This trend suggests that surprises are almost inevitable, adding another layer of excitement to the title race.

Celtic aiming to make an early statement

Celtic, the dominant force in Scottish football over the past two decades, find themselves in unfamiliar territory. Currently sitting third, they trail league leaders Hearts by three points. Despite their historical success, this season has been far from smooth, with inconsistent performances and internal challenges affecting their rhythm.

However, the weekend presents an opportunity for Celtic to apply early pressure. They are scheduled to play first, hosting Falkirk at home. On paper, this fixture appears favorable. Celtic have already beaten Falkirk four times this season, conceding just once—a goal that came during a League Cup encounter. While Falkirk have shown glimpses of competitiveness, the results have consistently gone in Celtic’s favor.

The focus for Celtic supporters will also be on team selection. Recent matches have highlighted the impact of players like Kelechi Iheanacho and James Forrest, who came off the bench in the Scottish Cup semi-final to inspire a remarkable turnaround against St Mirren. Their contributions, including a flurry of goals in extra time, demonstrated their ability to influence games when it matters most.

One of Celtic’s main issues this season has been the lack of a consistent striker. If Iheanacho can overcome his fitness concerns and deliver in these crucial matches, he could become a decisive figure in the title race. A victory against Falkirk would temporarily lift Celtic level on points at the top, increasing pressure on their rivals before they even step onto the pitch.

Rangers look to capitalize on home strength

Meanwhile, Rangers are also firmly in the hunt and will be looking to seize their opportunity. Their upcoming match at Ibrox against Motherwell carries added significance, not just for the title race but also for club captain James Tavernier.

Tavernier recently confirmed that he will leave Rangers at the end of the season after more than a decade at the club. His contributions have been immense, and adding another league title would further enhance his legacy. Known for his goal-scoring ability from defense, Tavernier has often delivered in big moments, and fans will be hoping he can do so again.

Rangers have been particularly strong at home under their current management, going unbeaten in their last 10 league matches at Ibrox and winning nine of them. This impressive record gives them a clear advantage heading into the clash with Motherwell. However, the visitors cannot be underestimated. Under Jens Berthel Askou, Motherwell have shown resilience and ambition, particularly in matches against top opposition.

That said, recent form favors Rangers. Motherwell have struggled in recent weeks, failing to win in their last five games and slipping down the table. If Rangers can secure a victory, they would move two points clear of Hearts, at least temporarily, placing significant pressure on the league leaders ahead of their own fixture.

Hearts face a defining derby challenge

League leaders Heart of Midlothian arguably face the most challenging test of the weekend as they prepare for the Edinburgh derby against Hibernian. Head coach Derek McInnes has described this match as the toughest remaining fixture of the season—a statement that reflects both the quality of the opposition and the stakes involved.

Earlier in the campaign, Hibernian delivered a dominant performance against Hearts, racing into a 3-0 lead within the first hour of play. Although Hearts fought back late in the game, the match served as a reminder of how dangerous their rivals can be. Hibernian are also chasing European qualification, giving them plenty of motivation to disrupt Hearts’ title ambitions.

Another concern for Hearts is their recent away form. They have struggled to pick up points on the road, managing just one point from their last four away fixtures. With three of their final five matches taking place away from home, improving their performances in these situations will be crucial.

The timing of the derby adds further pressure. If both Celtic and Rangers win their matches, Hearts could find themselves trailing Rangers and level with Celtic by the time they kick off. This scenario would test their mental resilience, as they would need to respond immediately to maintain their position at the top.

Despite these challenges, a victory in the derby would provide a massive boost for Hearts. Not only would it strengthen their title credentials, but it would also deliver a psychological advantage over their rivals heading into the final matches of the season.

A title race full of unpredictability

What makes this title race particularly compelling is its unpredictability. Each of the three contenders has shown strengths and weaknesses throughout the campaign, and no team has been able to dominate consistently. This balance means that the outcome remains uncertain, with every match capable of altering the standings.

For Celtic, the challenge is to rediscover the consistency that has defined their success in recent years. For Rangers, it is about maintaining their strong home form and capitalizing on opportunities. For Hearts, the focus will be on overcoming their away struggles and handling the pressure of leading the pack.

As the final weeks unfold, fans can expect drama, tension, and possibly unexpected twists. The Scottish Premiership has delivered an exciting season, and the title race promises to be a fitting conclusion. With so little separating the top three, the championship could be decided by the smallest of margins—perhaps even a single goal.
