Rafael Nadal the former world no. 1 has announced his withdrawal from the ATP Finals in London and thus ending his 2018 season prematurely. The reason for this sudden withdrawal is the ankle surgery he is going to undergo in few days.
17 times Grand Slam champion was expected to make a comeback in London after his two months hiatus including his absence from ATP Masters in Paris. However he is withdrawing from the event after citing out abdominal strain and really hopes to make it back in season finale.
In a twitter post, Nadal has confirmed the problem which I resulting in his absence from the final Masters 1000 tournament. The continued pain in his ankle is the main reason behind him missing out on the elite eight player field in London.
He said, “I am having trouble with abdominal muscle which is preventing me to perform in London. Now we are going to take the advantage of this to remove another problem which is my ankle pain to avoid any future problems.”
Nadal’s spot will be now filled b John Inser and this also allows Novak Djokovic to end the season as the year end World ranked no. 1 men’s tennis player.
