The heavyweight division fight held on Saturday night at The O2 between Hughie Fury and Alexander Povetkin ended with a unanimous points decision win for Povetkin.
Fury, the 24 years old heavyweight fighter, who is the cousin of Tyson Fury, could not endure the heavy onslaught of Povetkin who got the verdict of 117-111 on three judges’ scorecards.
Fry made a pumped-up start of the first round as he landed stiff jabs on Povetkin who missed his chance to land a left hook.
Russian tried to stop his opponent in the 2nd round with a thumping body shot but Fury was able to hold off his aggression in the 3rd round with his accurate jabs.
Povetkin unleashed hurtful hooks in the 4th that tested his opponent’s durability tot eh max and then the veteran 39 years old boxer upped his assault in the 5th and finished with a clubbing right punch.
Fury was able to maintain his disciplined game as he evaded Povetkin with is sharp counter during the 6th round.
Povetkin started to show signs of frustration while Fury tired to land right hands during the 7trh but was caught by a crunching left hook.
8th round saw Fury’s leg getting weak with a devastating right hand and blood started to trickle from above his left eye. Povetkin was again able to find his reach in the 9th. Fury was able to halt Povetkin onslaught in the 10th monetarily and showed his experience during the 11th as he landed a few of the nice hook shots.
As for the final round, both fighters only held their ground while trading equal punches and Fury failing to find a chance to land a telling punch. The fight ended and Povetkin was able to win on all 3 scorecards.
