The scheduled fight between Amir Khan and Neeraj Goyat has been canceled due to the car crash that resulted in Goyat to suffer serious injuries.
Instead of Goyat, Amir Khan will now fight against Billy Dib of Australia, who happens to be a veteran of 50 fights as well as the former champion of the world featherweight division. The fight will be held as scheduled on July 12th in Saudi Arabia.
Bill Dosanjh, the promoter of Neeraj Goyat said, “we are extremely sorry to inform all of you that our star Indian boxer Neeraj Goyat who was doing his preparations for a mega boxing match against the British boxer Amir Khan, met with a horrible car accident last night that has left him with many severe injuries on his head, left arm and face. He is currently in the hospital and we wish him a fast recovery.”
Khan and Goyat were due for this fight with the prize being the WBC Pearl title.
Earlier this year, Amir Khan, who is the 2-time world champion, was defeated by Terrence Crawford during their match for the WBO welterweight belt. Khan was planning to make a comeback with his fight against Goyat.
Dib said of his upcoming fight with Khan, “In life, you only get a very little amount of chances to do something monumental and like any greatest in the sports industry will tell you that when an opportunity comes at your door and knocks, you take it. This is going to be my real life Rocky moment.”
