Juan Martin del Porto has officially withdrawn himself from participating in the Australian Open as he plans to work on the complete recovery of his injured knee.
30 years old tennis star missed the end of the 2018’s season after he suffered a fractured kneecap injury at the Shanghai Masters back in October of 2018.
Del Porto who had also been forced to retire from ATP Finals in London announced his fitness update to the word where he being much positive but is still going to miss out on the new season’s opening Grand Slam tournament.
Del Porto wrote, “I hope all of you have a great 2019. The recovery is going great for me and I will later tell you guys when I will be making a comeback. Unfortunately, it will not happen in Australia. I will miss you Australian Open but I am happy with my progress for now. Happy New Year! Enjoy!”
Del Porto, who has suffered numerous injuries throughout his career, had a wonderful 2018 as he managed to get into the final of the US Open in addition to winning two titles along with his first Masters 1000 title at Indian Wells.
Del Porto, the 2009 US Open Champion managed to reach to the third round of the Australian Open last year after his return to the tournament four years later.
As for Roger Federer, he will be aiming an attempt to win his Third straight Australian Open men’s singles title.
The Australian Open will begin on January 14th, 2019.
