Serena Williams will now once again prepare for her quest of equaling the 24 Grand Slam title record at the Australasian Open which is being held in January 2019.
Serena the 37 years old American tennis star won this tournament seven times and last time was two years ago when she won the final by defeating her won sister Venus Williams while being eight weeks pregnant with her daughter Alex Olympia who was born in the September of that very same year.
Williams after taking a hiatus to raise her daughter made a return to the Tennis world and competed in Wimbledon and US Open finals last year but eventually lost both of them.
She is only one title away from tying with Australian Margret Court’s tally of Grand Slam singles titles.
Her last match at the US Open’s final was held at Flushing Meadows which she lost against Naomi Osaka of Japan after her row with the umpire Carlos Ramos.
Before heading to Melbourne, Australia for the tournament next year, she is going to play in an exhibition tournament in the final week of this year in Abu Dhabi. She is also playing in Australian Open a warm up to assault on the Hopman Cup in Perth later.
Apart from 102 women, 101 tennis men players have also confirmed their participation in the tournament which will be held from January 14 to 27th. Andy Murray who has been the runner-up for the tournament previously 5 times is also making a comeback after missing out three years because of his hip injury.
