Australian Open; Stefanos Tsitsipas beats Roger Federer to reach first Grand Slam quarter-final

The third round match of tennis between the two times defending champion Roger Federer VS Stefanos Tsitsipas ended with Federer’s defeat as Stefanos Tsitsipas managed to reach the first quarter-finals of the Australian Open in a thrilling fashion.

Stefanos Tsitsipas who was facing Federer for the very first time in a tour-level match knocked out the six-time winner by 6-7 (11-13) 7-6 (7-3) 7-5 7-6 (7-5) after three hours and 45 minutes. With this win, Tsitsipas has also become the first Greek man or a woman to have reached the last eight of a Grand Slam.

The World no. 15, Tsitsipas will now play absent the Grand Slam quarterfinalist Roberto Bautista Agut after the Spanish player defeated the last year runner up Marin Cilic by 6-7 (6-8) 6-3 6-2 4-6 6-4.

Tsitsipas said to media, “there is really now rod to describe my feelings right now. I am the happiest man of the earth. Roger is a legend and he has shown such good tennis over the years. I have been his biggest fan since I was six years old. It was a dream come true to face him in the Rod Laver Arena but now winning against him, I cannot describe myself.”
