Barty and Svitolina both reach the final of the WTA Finals

Ashleigh Barty, the world rank no. 1 successfully reached the finals of WTA Finals on Saturday following her semifinals win.  In the final, she will be facing the defending champion of the last year’s WTA Finals Elian Svitolina, a player who has previously not been defeated in the last 5 attempts.

Barty, just like Svitolina, lost the opening set of her semifinal match against the world rank no. 2 Karolina Pliskova to ultimately win the match by 4-6, 6-2 and 6-3.

Barty said of her win, “I feel as if the whole match was on whole another level. I am only feeling great to get one more chance to play here. It is a match that I will try to come out as my bets and also enjoy. I have nothing else to lose as this is an opportunity against a really tough opponent.”

Belinda Bencic had to retire in the middle of her match against Svitolina who was outlasting the Swiss opponent by 5-7, 6-3 and 4-1. Following the retirement of Bencic, Svitolina was able to advance to the final of the WTA Finals for the second time in a row.

Svitolina said of her second time in the finals of the WTA Finals, “It still feels unreal that I am in the final of the tournament. Still, it is tough to play against someone who was injured.”

For Barty, this season had been an outstanding one in her career, who was able to win her first Grand Slam trophy at the French Open and then attained the world rank no. 1 for the first time. She is also the year-end world rank no. 1 player from Australia to hold such a title.

Calling to her upcoming final of the WTA Finals, Barty said, “This has been an incredible year for both me and my team. This is the perfect way to cap it off.”

She is relishing this great opportunity as she will bid to win the WTA Finals by beating the defending champ.
