Bayern Munich open talks to extend Kane contract

Bayern Munich have opened discussions with Harry Kane over the possibility of extending his stay in Germany, according to sporting director Max Eberl. The talks underline how important the England captain has become to the club since his high-profile arrival from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2023.

Kane, now 32, signed a four-year contract when he joined Bayern in a deal initially valued at €100m (£86.4m). At the time, the move marked one of the most significant transfers in Bundesliga history and brought an end to Kane’s long association with Spurs. Since then, his impact in Munich has exceeded expectations, both in terms of numbers and influence.

In just over two seasons with Bayern, Kane has scored an astonishing 119 goals and provided 30 assists in 126 appearances across all competitions. His consistency in front of goal has been central to Bayern’s domestic and European success, most notably during the 2024-25 campaign, when the club reclaimed the Bundesliga title. That triumph also carried personal significance for Kane, as it represented the first major trophy of his professional career.

Speaking at a Bundesliga event in Frankfurt, Eberl confirmed that conversations are already under way regarding Kane’s future. While he did not offer specific details, the Bayern sporting director made it clear that the club values the striker highly and wants clarity sooner rather than later.

“We’re talking to Harry, we’re talking,” Eberl said. “Everyone understands that at some point, a decision has to be made.”

Kane himself has previously hinted that he is open to remaining in Munich beyond his current deal. In October 2025, the England international admitted that his desire to return to the Premier League had reduced, suggesting that life in Germany has suited him and his family.

At the time, Kane said he could “definitely” see himself staying at Bayern, a statement that was widely interpreted as a sign of long-term commitment rather than mere diplomacy. His comments were reinforced by his continued performances on the pitch, where he has shown no signs of slowing down.

This season alone, Kane has scored 34 goals in 30 matches for Vincent Kompany’s side, underlining his importance to Bayern’s attack. In the Bundesliga, he has already netted 21 times in just 19 appearances, placing him firmly on course to challenge one of the league’s most iconic records.

The benchmark Kane is chasing belongs to former Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski, who scored 41 goals in a single Bundesliga season. Kane’s relentless scoring rate has sparked genuine belief that the record could be under threat, adding further incentive for Bayern to secure his future.

Beyond domestic competition, Kane has also been influential in Europe. His goals and leadership have helped Bayern climb to second place in their Champions League group with one match still to play. As Bayern continue to target European success, Kane’s experience and composure on the biggest stage are seen as invaluable assets.

Bayern chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen echoed Eberl’s comments, stressing that there is no urgency from the club’s perspective. According to Dreesen, Kane feels settled in Munich, both professionally and personally.

“Harry has great confidence in us and he feels comfortable here,” Dreesen explained. “He and his family are well settled in Munich, so there’s absolutely no reason for us to rush.”

That sense of stability is believed to be a key factor in Bayern’s confidence that an agreement can eventually be reached. Kane’s family has adapted well to life in Germany, and the striker has spoken positively about the club’s culture, infrastructure, and long-term ambition.

From Bayern’s point of view, extending Kane’s contract would send a powerful message about their intent to remain among Europe’s elite. Despite his age, Kane continues to perform at an elite level, combining physical presence with technical intelligence and leadership.

For Kane, the decision will likely involve balancing ambition, legacy, and lifestyle. While a return to the Premier League once seemed inevitable, his success in Germany — coupled with the prospect of breaking records and winning further trophies — may make staying in Munich an increasingly attractive option.

As negotiations continue, Bayern supporters will be hoping that their talismanic striker commits his future to the club. With goals flowing freely and silverware already secured, Kane’s Bayern chapter appears far from complete.
