Canelo vs. Jacobs: Daniel Jacobs and Saul Alvarez set to fight for middleweight unification

A three-fight deal has been signed according to which, Daniel Jacobs will fight against Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez for the middleweight unification on May 4th. The deal has been signed with the Matchroom USA.

IBF Champion Jacobs current record is 35-2 with 29 Knockouts as he will bid against the Canelo who has the career record of 50-1-2 with 34 knockouts. Both fighters will fight for the WBA and WBC belts. Canelo I also the Linea and Ring Magazine champion at 160 lbs.

Canelo was able to gain these belts after he defeated Gennady Golovkin back in their September fight. Since has trained for the super middleweight to take the WBA belt at 158 lbs from Rocky Fielding with a third-round stoppage.

Sergiy Derevyanchenko

On the other hand Jacobs defeated Sergiy Derevyanchenko in October as he secured his IBF belt but lost it to the undefeated Golovkin in 2017 who has the WBA and WBVC belts.

Jacobs said to media, “this I the opportunity I have been waiting for to achieve the greatness inside the ring. I have always been certain that I can beat Canelo and on May 4th I will have my chance to prove it. It has been four years since Canelo has faced any American challenger”.

After the Matchroom USA secured this deal signing, the managing director Eddie Hears said, “What a fight. I cannot tell you as to how happy I am that Daniel Jacobs will get the opportunity to fight against Canelo on Cinco de Mayo for this unification fight.”
