Doheny VS Takahashi; TJ Doheny stops Ryohei Takahashi in 11th round of first world title defence

The Friday night boxing match of Doheny VS Takahashi at the Madison Square Garden ended with TJ Doheny’s win as he stopped Ryohei Takahashi in the 11th round of his first defence title fight for the IBF Super-Bantamweight title.

The Irishman Doheny had his opponent down in the third round and from thereon pretty much took the charge of the whole match before referee Mike Ortega stepped in and waived off the fight.

Doheny cemented his place at the top after he won the title fight against Japan’s Ryosuke Iwasa in Japan back in August of 2018.

Both fighters clashed heads in the second and suffered cuts. Things only got worse for Takashi in the third round as a left hook landed on his body which was followed by a straight right and a couple of more hooks as he was put down on the floor by Doheny.

Although the Irishman landed in some pretty nice hooks, and it seemed like the end for Takashi, he still managed to stand up but things got worse for him in the next few rounds.

Takahashi changed his pattern for the second half of the fight but Doheny was still able to avoid his challenger’s rugged style and even made things more difficult for Takashi to land any hits.

The eighth round was the best for Takahashi but things were far from changing the outcome of the fight as Doheny was ahead on points decision only for the referee to step in during eh 11th round to call off the fight.

After winning this fight, Doheny is looking ahead to meet the WBA counterpart Daniel Roman for the Super-Flyweight fight.
