Cecilia Braekhus stays on course for fight with Katie Taylor by winning over Victoria Bustos

The fight for the welterweight crown between Cecilia Braekhus and Victoria Bustos ended with Cecilia Braekhus winning the fight and moving a step closer to her intended showdown with Katie Taylor.

38 years old Norwegian boxer Cecilia Braekhus had been out of the boxing ring for about a whole year. She made a rerun to the ring in a very dominant style as she defeated the two-weight champion of the world, Victoria Bustos in 10 rounds. 2 ringside judges scored her 98-92 while the third one scored her 99-91.

She was able to win her 25th world title defense fight against Bustos with her dominating power and speed.

Now after winning the fight under the banner of Matchroom boxing, she is now able to set up a fight against Katie Taylor for a fight between the undisputed champions.

Eddie Hearn said, “This was some great performance from Cecilia Braekhus. The future of female boxing is Katie Taylor Vs Cecilia Braekhus. They will have another fight in the Spring and then they will fight in the Summer.  It is going to be the biggest fight in boxing next year.  These two are set for a collision course and fans will be able to see this fight for sure in 2020.”

Cecilia Braekhus also agreed with plans of Eddie Hearn and also happy from her performance as she said, “They were great 10 rounds for getting back into this business.  I got my groove back in the 3rd round. Now I want to have a holiday and then start back in the gym.”

As for the fight for the vacant belt of WBA Welterweight world title between Alexander Besputin and his fellow countryman, the unbeaten Russian boxer Radzhab Butaev, it ended with Besputin getting the unanimous decision of 116-112.

Besputin was a tad better in quality than his fellow countryman as he presented his speedy footwork to improve his career record to be 14-0.

The fight between Zhilei Zhang and Andriy Rudenko ended with Zhang winning after 10 rounds.

The massive Chinese heavyweight was able to secure the win to be unbeaten with ringside judges giving him scores of 99-91, 98-92 and 97-93.
