Champions League; Porto beats Roma 3-1 to reach quarterfinals

With a penalty shot by Alex Telles in the extra time, Porto was able to cruise into the quarterfinals of the Champions League with a 3-1 win over the Roma on Wednesday night. They managed to overturn a one-point deficit from the first leg.

After Alessandro Florenzi was penalized, Telles converted the spot kick with two minutes to the game.

With this Porto went for an aggregate of 4-3 and left the Roma and particularly Florenzi in tears. The defender of Roma was consoled by Iker Casillas; the goalkeeper of Porto.

Hector Herrera; Porto midfielder said, “we were deserving to qualify, we were better tonight. Belief is what made the difference tonight.”

Roma was not short of chances to level up in the OT. Roma defender Kostas Manolas said, “We had many chances to level the game at 2-2 and would have even gone through. Then they blew up a penalty and they did not give another one which was clear.”
