Juan Martin del Potro suffers a shocking defeat in the China Open final by hands of Nikoloz Basilashvili on Sunday.
The tournament’s top seed Del Potro lost to Nikoloz, by 4-6 and 4-6. Nikoloz previously defeated Britain’s no. 1 Kyle Edmund to set this final match against del Potro.
Del Potro who was in the top of his form throughout the whole season unexpectedly was not fluid and ultimately fallen at hands of the world no. 34 Nikoloz.
Nikoloz had to hold back a little in the second set as he was tied at 4-4. Del Potro tried to retort with a kitchen sink at Nikoloz but after three nonbreaking points, his race came to an end.
Nikoloz in his next game served out that settled his second career title in addition to his previously won German Open title this year.
Del Potro even after this defeat is still qualified for participation in the Nitto ATP Finals to be held in London.
