New Orleans Pelicans were not worried at all when Cavs went for 8 to 8 beyond the arc as they build their 13 points lead in the first quarter.
Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry said, “It is like the stock market, at some time there is going to be some adjustment.”
As the Cavs cooled down, it was when Pelicans pounced on them. Anthony Davis with his 38 points and 13 rebounds gave energy to the Pelicans in the second quarter to lead their win against the Cavs by 140-126 on Wednesday night’s basketball game.
Cavs only managed to hit 8 of the 22 3-pointers in the final three quarters. As for Pelicans, they scored 41 points in the third quarter and 40 points in the fourth quarter for a runaway victory. Davis, alone, made 18 points in the third quarter.
Gentry said, “If you can manage to have 40 points a quarter, then your offense is working pretty great.”
With this win, Cavs have lost 11th game in a row. Pelicans guard Jrue Holiday said, “We made a push before halftime and we broke open after that.”
Four players from Pelicans scored in double digits. Frank Jackson scored 19, Holiday scored 18 and Nikola Mirotic and Julius Randle booth added in their 17 points each.
As for the Cavs, they were led by Jordan Clarkson who scored 21 points. Other players from Cavs’ side like Matthew Dellavedova scored 17 points, Cameron Payne had 16 points and Ante Zizic added in his 10 points. The group totaled in at 75 points. Alec Burks led the starters from Cavs side with 17 points while Collin Sexton added 13 points for the team.
Up next, Cleveland Cavaliers will play against the Charlotte Hornets on Friday while New Orleans Pelicans will play against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday.
