In the WBC lightweight title defense fight between Devin Haney and Alfredo Santiago, Haney was able to have a shut out win to retain his crown.
America boxer Devin Haney was able to make use of his fast hand and feet movements to win on every round of the fight as he was able to secure the verdict of 120-107 points on all the three scorecards from ringside judges. The fight was held on the undercard of the fight KSI VS Logan Paul 2 which took place at the Staple Center located in Los Angeles.
Haney said, “I think that I had dislocated my shoulder in the ring but this shows that I am a good fighter and a true champion. It was more of an experience for me and now on to the next project. I want to fight all the top guys in 2020 along with any belt holders. I will take on Lomachenko or even Ryan Garcia for the big fight.”
Devi Haney started the fight pumped up as he found his long-range to hammer some heavy hooks to his opponent’s body. Still, Santiago was also able to find his range as well to deliver blows toe to toe. Devin Haney then unleashed another hook shot during eh 2nd and then switched to attack the body of Santiago, however, Santiago was able to fight back with a right punch and then gained momentum in the 3rd.
The 4t round saw Santiago starting the fight on a front foot and then he tested the mettle of Devin Haney with a left-right combo which was followed by a great left hook.
The 5th then saw Devin Haney exploded into action as he sent his opponent to the canvas following a devastating uppercut shot. Santiago was able to beat the referee’s count and then relive to hear the sound of the bell.
Devin Haney then took charge of the middle rounds as he drained his opponent‘s energy with a devastating uppercut and right punches.
Despite efforts of 20 years old Devin Haney, Santiago was able to hold his ground in the fight until the bell for the final round rang.
