The Sunday Times newspaper in Britain named Dina Asher-Smith as the Sportswoman of the Year 2019.
Dina Asher-Smith was able to get a historical hat-trick at the last month’s World Athletics Championships when she won the gold medal in 100m and the 200 m following with silver medal for the 400m relay alongside Asha Philip, Ashleigh Nelson, and Daryll Neita.
With Dina Asher-Smith winning the three medals, she has become Britain’s first-ever athlete to have won 3 medals in a single World Championships.
Last year, Dina Asher-Smith also set up a national record for the 200m race held in Doha with her time 21.88 seconds which earned her the Sportswoman of the Year 2018.
As for the Team of the Year title, it went to England’s Netball team as they backed it up with another win in a similar category.
The English netball team is known by the name Vitality Roses which managed to be the third in the World Cup of Netball held in Liverpool. They first defeated South Africa to get the bronze but then lost by a low margin against New Zealand during the semifinals.
As for the title of Disability Sportswoman of the year, it went to the Paralympian named Alice Tai and the Young Sportswoman of the Year title was given to the winner of the Magnolia Cup held at Goodwood; Khadijah Mellah.
