Andy Murray, the Comeback King, and his partner at the Fever-Tree Championship named Feliciano Lopez, managed to reach the doubles finals at the Queen’s Club.
After making it to the singles finals at the Queen’s Club, Lopez only had about 12 minutes of break before he got back on the court to play alongside Andy Murray to win their quarterfinal match against the duo of Dan Evans and his partner Ken Skupski.
The fading light had caused the earlier meeting of Murray and Lopez with this British duo to be delayed after they took the first set for 6-4 and having at a standpoint of 4-5 for the second set.
Murray’s epic performance allowed the duo to be at 5-2 with the Scottish player then wrapping up things with a 6-4 and 7-6 win over Dan Evans and Ken Skupski.
Murray and Lopez then chose to remain on the court for their semifinals match against the defending Queen’s Club champions Henri Kontinen and John Peers.
Murray and Lopez took the first set but in the 2nd set, the 32 years old Murray; who is the two-time Wimbledon champion, dropped a serve as the set went for a tiebreak. The tie break was eventually won by Peers and Kontinen.
However, the third set, which also went in for a tiebreak, was won by Murray as the exhausted Lopez held on barely on the court but to see them winning the game by 7-5, 6-7 and 10-7.
When Murray was asked s if he was surprised on his amazing comeback, he said, “I did not know exactly what to expect and obviously it was a tough one as I had to lay with top seeds of the tournament in the first match. I have also never played with Feliciano and I had no high hopes at all. Things just got better with each match. I also did not expect to be playing in the finals for sure.”
They will now face the duo of Joe Salisbury and Rajeev Ram in the Fever-Tree championship’s finals.
