JD NTXGEN: Jordan Gill in his career’s first professional defeat also loses the WBA belt to Enrique Tinoco

The Friday night bout for the WBA International Featherweight title between Jordan Gill and Enrique Tinoco ended in a loss for Gill at the Nottingham Arena.

Gill prior to losing the belt fell three times as a result of body shots from his Mexican opponent. After the third time, Gill’s trainer Dave Coldwell pulled his fighter out of the fight after only 8 rounds passed.

Gil said, “I am not going to make excuses but I am still making. I spent all afternoon on the toilet. I think I suffered from food poisoning and was not going to pull out on the day. Still, I did not want to quit the fight. He is a good fighter but that was not me fighting in the ring today. I was terrible as I could not do anything in there. Every time he touched me, it felt like I was going to explode. I will need to come back another night but tonight; the congratulations are in order for him.”

The opening round saw both fighters coming with punches at each other with Gill boxing from behind his long jab while Tinoco marching forward as he threw punches from every angle.

Both fighters changed their stances in the 2nd as Gill started attacking his opponent’s body an head while his aggressive challenger managed to land a decent right punch.

The third saw Tinoco landing a body shot and dropping Gill as they were trading punches at close quarters.

Gill came in the fourth round with an intention to hurt his opponent but Mexican delivered a right hook to his body that had the 24 years old Gill on the canvas for the second time in the fight so far.

6th saw the Mexican testing Gill’s chin with an uppercut and then a heavy shot.

Gill finally stopped Tinoco’s advance in the 7th to some extent with a heavy right-hand punch which was followed by a combination.

After a brief stop, the Tijuana fighter asserted his dominance again in the 8th as he floored the champion once more.

The referee started the count and Cambridgeshire fighter was able to make it back to his feet at the count of 8th and returned to his corner. From there his trainer pulled him out of the fight.
