Callum Johnson who was contending a brave attempt for a world title was ended in a knockout defeat during the fourth round at hand of his opponent Arthur Beterbiev. Johnson; the British light heavyweight fighter has become the only player in the world to have floored the IBF titleholder Beterbiev during the second round. Unfortunately for Johnson, Beterbiev ended his challenge with a destructive heavy-handed hit at the Wintrust Arena located in Chicago.
Right from the start, Johnson delivered a devastating overhand right to Beterbiev but then, unfortunately, got entangled in the ropes and was clubbed by his opponent to the canvas with a left hook.
Johnson retaliated in the second round with a looping left hand but also could not find another defining below for the rest of the round.
Coming into the third round, Johnson was bleeding from his right eye as both opponents traded savage blows to each other in close range combat but the round was ended by Beterbiev in a ruthless style.
Beterbiev sent a devastating right hand to Johnson in the fourth round that sent shockwaves to Johnson’s leg and he crumbled own on canvas and could not beat the count.
Callum Johnson post fight said to media that, “I don’t want to make any excuses but I could have still fought better than that. I came close in the second round but the better man won in the end and finished the job so fair play for him.”
