In the super existing fight for the Super-Flyweight division between Jono Carroll and Eleazar Valenzuela, it was Carroll who came on top to win the 10-round fight held in Hermosillo, Mexico.
Carroll was able to secure himself a unanimous decision win over his Mexican opponent. This was Carllo’s first time back in the fighting ring after his previous loss to Tevin Farmer; the IBF champion, back in March by the points decision.
First few rounds were evenly matched between the two men but soon Carroll started to find his rhythm in the 3rd to catch his opponent with clubbing hooks to his body and then his head. As for keeping himself out of damage, he made use of his superior footwork.
The 4th saw Valenzuela dealing some right-hand punches to his opponent and then also had some success in the 5th with clubbing hooks to Carroll’s head.
Carroll than started making combinations to attack his opponent in the 6th but Valenzuela was blocking most of his punches easily. It was not until 7th round that Dubliner was able to enjoy some success with his body shots and then slowed down Valenzuela’s march in the next 2 rounds.
Carroll upped his efforts in the 10th round and also kept himself out of danger by avoiding shots of Valenzuela.
Ultimately the final bell was rung and Carroll was able to secure his victory by unanimous decision of three judges who scored him 98-92 on all of the 3 scorecards.
