Kane Williamson leads New Zealand to top of the point table in World Cup with win over South Africa

Kane Williamson had a thrilling century in ICC world cup clash between New Zealand and South Africa as New Zealand won over the Proteas by a 4-wicket victory. With this win, the Black Cups now are at the top o the points table with Proteas being eliminated out of the semi-finals contentions.

Williamson was 106 not out as he scored his career 12th ODI century as the Black hats chased the 242 runs target. New Zealand won the match by 3 balls to spare in the final over.

The so far unbeaten New Zealand lost three wickets early on by scoring mere 8 runs. Martin Guptill held on to score 35 runs but his fourth wicket fell making the score 80-4 at a match held in Edgbaston.

However, next came the captain of Black hats; Williamson who held on to score 91 runs partnership with Colin de Grandhomme who scored 60 runs off of 47 balls for the 6-wicket partnership.

For Colin de Grandhomme, this was his 50th half century of the ODI career. The misfortune for Proteas started after they chose not to go for the review of bottom-edging Imran Tahir at first and then missing the chance to run him out.

With New Zealand winning the 4 of their last 5 games, they now move up with total 9 points, which is one point ahead of both Australia and England. So far South Africa they only have 3 points from their last 6 matches making them to be at 8th place in the world cup ranking table.

Even if, South Africa wins its matches against Pakistan, Australia, and Sri Lanka, they are unlikely to make it to the top 4 of the world cup rankings.

South Africa might now be sick o the sight of the Black Hats who have also eliminated them from the last 2 World Cup tournaments with one being back in 2011 when they eliminated them in the quarterfinal and one of the semi-final 4 years back held in Auckland.
