Madrid Open; Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic both win their matches

Roger Federer, in his match against Gael Monfils on clay managed to save two match points to win the match and make it to the quarterfinals of the Madrid Open.

Federer in a high quality red clay court match won over his opponent at the La Caja Magica court by 6-0, 4-6 and 7-6.

Federer won the opening set with a bagel in 18 minutes while having some problem in the second set but ultimately winning the third set against the Frenchman.

As for Dominic Thiem, the winner of the Barcelona Open, he defeated the winner of the Monte Carlo Masters Fabio Fognini by 6-4 and 7-5 to set up his match against Roger Federer next.

For the match of world rank no., 1 Novak Djokovic against Jeremy Chardy, he won over Chardy by 6-1 and 7-6.

With this win over Chardy, Serbian has now 13 consecutive wins on the clay court and all of them by straight sets.

Djokovic will play next against Marin Cilic who defeated Laslo Djere by 4-6, 6-3 and 6-2. As for the final headliner match of the event, Rafael Nadal made it to the quarter finals after defeating Frances Tiafoe by 6-4 and 6-4.

As for the mouthwatering showdown between Stan Wawrinka and Kei Nishikori, Wawrinka defeat Nishikori in straight sets.
