Max Scherzer; the pitcher for Washington Nationals got himself the solid on the National League Cy Young Award after striking out 10 batters on the Tuesday night’s match giving him an even 300 wicket record for the season.
Scherzer under the cheers of the fans at the Nationals Park finished off the left field of Miami Marlins; Austin Dean by 3-2 slider in the top of seventh innings. By striking Austin out he has officially become the sixth pitcher since 1990 to hit the mark of 300 strikeouts.
Scherzer has joined the 300K club with players like Randy Johnson, Curt Shilling, Pedro Martinez, Clayton Kershaw and Chris Slae from last season.
Scherzer said to media that, “it was something that is have dreamed about for a long time to reach. I knew reaching this mark was hard because I had o go out there and constantly strike out guys.”
While Scherzer is set to receive his third NL Cy Young Award but he is under a lot of challenging from Jacob deGrom of New York Mets and Aaron Nola of Philadelphia Phillies.
The National star pitcher has provided the team with impressive stats once again. He was removed after the seventh innings and was allowed only one run of five hits In addition to his previous 10 strikeouts.
Scherzer after reaching the 300 mark said to media, “I definitely wanted to reach this mark here at home. The support from the fans is unbelievable.”
