Cameron Norrie’s hope to win his first ATP title was crushed after the British no. 2 was defeated in the semifinals of Mexico Open by Alexander Zverev in straight sets.
With this win, Zverev will now face Nick Kyrgios in the Mexico Open final’s match.
Norrie played in his last final this year in Auckland but his fine week in Acapulco was ended when the world no. 3 Zverev took his time to post his straight sets win.
Zverev is still to drop a set this week as he declared his dominance against Norrie in the opening service game. As for 23 years old Norrie, he maintained his nerves to force the tie break.
Despite the defeat, Norrie is happy that he will now break through the World Top 50 ranking on Monday for the first time in his career. As for Zverev, he advances to a much anticipated final of the tournament against Nick Kyrgios.
