In the Tuesday’s French league match between Montpellier and Lyon, it was striker named Arnaud Souquet of Montpellier who led the team’s 1-0 victory over their opponents. With this defeat, the winning start of Lyon for the French League comes to an end.
During the 42nd minute of the game, Souquet received a fierce volley from outside the box that he made for a headshot that hit the net. This was the first goal of the league for Souquet since he came to Montpellier back in January of 2017.
As for Lyon, this was also the first goal that they conceded after having 2 major wins of the season.
Minutes before Souquet made a goal his teammate Andy Delort squandered off a penalty by hitting it against the goal post.
As for Lyon, their chances to make a comeback to the game were dampened after their new signed-in player Youssouf Kone was sent out of the field after he pushed his head to Delort during the 51st minute.
Jason Denayer could also have allowed Lyon to level the game but his header missed by a narrow margin to make it into the goal.
With defeat of Lyon, Rennes still tops the league as a team to have won all of their 3 matches in the league so far. They are 3 points ahead of both Lyon and the defending champions; Paris Saint-Germain. If Nice could win their match against Marseille on Wednesday, they could also share the top spot of the league with Rennes.
