Munich Open; Kohlschreiber defeats Khachanov along with Kudla being ousted

On Thursday, the second-seeded of the Munich Open and the former champion of the event, Philipp Kohlschreiber managed to defeat Karen Khachanov by 7-6 and 6-4 to reach the quarterfinals of the event.

Kohlschreiber had earlier won the title of Munich Open back in years 2007, 2012 and 2016. In this match against Khachanov, Kohlschreiber had to save a set point during the tiebreaker. This tiebreaker allowed him to earn a decisive break for having a 5-4 lead in the second set before winning the game.

With this loss, the losing streak of Khachanov extends as he has not managed to win a single set since he last played at Indian Wells back in March.

In addition to this, he had lost in opening rounds of tournaments like Miami Open, Monte Carlo Masters and Barcelona Open.

As for Kohlschreiber, he will now face the Italian player Matteo Berrettini who reached the last 8 after beating the unseeded American opponent Denis Kudla by 7-5 and 6-3. Kudla set this match against Berrettini after he dispatched the 5th seeded player Kyle Edmund earlier on Tuesday.

In other matches of the day, the 4th seeded player Roberto Bautista Agut managed to win over the German wildcard player Rudolf Molleker by 6-4 and 6-2. He will now face Guido Pella who defeated Japanese player Taro Daniel by 6-1, 6-7 and 6-3.
