The opening match for Naomi Osaka at the Brisbane International was a tough one where she had to play hard to get away with a win. Osaka is playing at Brisbane International in preparing for the Australian Open; the first Grand Slam event of the year and also to defend her last year’s title. Australian Open will start only 2 weeks later.
Osaka was able to win over her Greek opponent Maria Sakkari by 6-2, 6-7 and 6-3 on Tuesday for moving to the 2nd round of Brisbane International to have a match against America’s Sofia Kenin.
Osaka, the winner of 2 Grand Slam tournaments and the former world rank no. 1 had to play the 2 hours length match in which she fired 16 aces to win over Sakkari.
As for another match of the Brisbane Intentional on Tuesday held between Madison Keys and her opponent Maria Bouzkova; the Czech Republic qualifier, Keys won by 6-2 and 6-3. With this, Keys also moves to 2nd round here she will not face the home favorite Samantha Stosur.
Keys said, “Sam is always a tough opponent. I think she has beaten me in every game that we played in the past. It is also going to be a hard match against a player who is paling at home and has a crowd to cheer her and all that.”
Lyudmila Samsonova, the Russian qualifier was able to defeat one of the best players at Brisbane International; America’s Stephen Sloane, who is the champion of US Open in 2017, by 6-4, 2-6 and 6-3.
Samsonova is now going to play against the winner of the Petra Kvitova Vs Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova match to be held on Tuesday night. In other to be played matches, the wild card participant Maria Sharapova is also all set to play her opening match against the American qualifier player Jennifer Brady.
