Johanna Konta was able to win her first round match at the Nature Valley International at Eastbourne by 6-2 and 6-4 to move into the 2nd round of the tournament. The 14th seeded player of the event, Konta was able to win over her 19 years old Ukrainian opponent Dayana Yastremska.
With this win, the British no. 1 will be facing the Maria Sakkari of Greece in the 2nd round match.
As for other players of Britain such as Heather Watson, Harriet Dart, and Katie Swan, they all lost their first-round matches leaving Konta to be the sole representative of Britain at the tournament.
Watson was beaten by France’s Alize Cornet by 7-5 and 6-2 while Swan was handed her defeat at hands of Chinese player Zhang Shuai by 7-6, 4-6 and 6-4.
As for Dart, she lost against her last year’s Australian Open double’s pair the 176th seeded Anett Kontaveit by 3-6, 6-4 and 6-2.
As for the men’s singles, British teenage sensation Paul Jubb was able to qualify for the 2nd round with his win over Andrey Rublev of Russia who is a player ranked 498 places higher than him. Jubb defeated Rublev by 4-6, 6-3 and 6-2.
As for James Ward of Britain, he played in a 50 minutes long match to win over American opponent Denis Kudla by 6-3 and 6-2.
Jubb will now play against Taylor Fritz while Ward will take on Italy’s Thomas Fabbiano.
