Nick Kyrgios has become one of the latest players to pull out of the second major tennis tournament of the year French Open earlier on Friday afternoon.
The Australian paler was due for a first round match at the Roland Garros against the British player Cameron Norrie but now has reportedly withdrawn from the event following an illness.
As for the tournament officials, they do not know the actual reason for Kyrgios’s withdrawal.
The world rank no., 36, Kyrgios has not played any professional match since the on-court tantrum he presented at the Italian Open.
Kyrgios was given a penalty for allegedly cursing at a judge followed by him slamming his racket down, kicking a water bottle and finally hurling a chair on to the court.
He walked off the match in between the decider set that led to the crowd blowing whistles and hurling jeers at him as he forfeited his spot in the tournament.
His withdrawal is also followed form an early video he posted on social media where he said that compared to Wimbledon, French Open sucks.
With his withdrawal, Kyrgios has joined other players such as John Isner, Tomas Berdych, Milos Raonic, and Kevin Anderson, who have all withdrawn from the tournament.
As for women’s singles at French Open main draw, the British No. 3 Katie Boulter has also withdrawn from the French Open following her aggravate back injury.
She was set to play against the 23 seeded of the French open Donna Vekic but after arriving in Paris on Friday morning, she withdrew in the afternoon.
Boulter expressed her sorrow for withdrawing from the French Open in following Twitter post,
“So disappointed to have to pull out of the French Open. I was still hoping to have a chance of competing but doctors have advised me not to take a risk with my back. Can’t wait to get back on the court soon.”
With Boulter now out of the French Open, Johanna Konta will be the only female player to be representing Britain at Roland Garros.
