On the Sunday finals of the Paris Masters, Karen Khachanov presented an aggressive display of his skills and ended the Novak Djokovic’s 22 games winning streak along with securing himself his maiden 1000 title at the Paris Masters’ final match.
222 years old was the underdog of the event who made it to the finals with an all week impressive display of his talent. In front of the four time champion, Khachanov was confident all the time on the court and defeated him by 7-5 and 6-4.
Since 2009, when Nikolay Davydenko won the Masters 1000 title, Khachanov has become the first Russian to win the title. With this loss, the hope of Djokovic’s to be the World No. 1 on Monday has come crashing down hard.
Near the end of the first set, Djokovic’s showed signs of fatigue and as for Khachanov who was bidding for this strategy form the start showed an aggressive play and ended up hitting 18 winners in the opener as he sealed the first set.
Khachanov also maintained the same aggressive game plan from early second round and as for Djokovic who was rattled by this barrage of accurate shots from other side of the court; it was hard to keep up. Eventually, he succumbed to the Russian’s impressive game plan and the win ultimately was in Khachanov hands.
Khachanov has now been promoted to the World Rank no. 11 on Monday and has also overtaken the place of Borna Coric as the second alternate in the ATP Finals in London for this year.
