Novak Djokovic, the World no. 1 finally made it through to the quarterfinals of the Qatar Open only after he was able to survive through a huge scare against his opponent from Hungary, Marton Fucsovics.
The Serb who has won the event two times in the past managed to gain the victory by 4-6, 6-4 and 6-1 against the world no. 36.
With this win, Djokovic has also extended his tournament record to 14-1 which also includes him winning his last 12 games.
Djokovic after the match said, “For the first two sets, he was the better player. He played really well and really smartly as he changed up the rhythm and the pace of the ball as he moved around. I found myself in kind of a corner, through which I had to fight my way out.”
With this win, Djokovic is now on his way to having a match against Stan Wawrinka for the semi-finals in Doha after Wawrinka won his Wednesday match against Chile’s Nicolas Jary by 6-4 and 7-6.
As for the seventh seed player of the tournament, Roberto Bautista managed to win against his Spanish compatriot Guillermo Garcia-Lopez by 6-1 and 6-4 whereas Serbia’s Dusan Lajovic managed to gain his victory against the Richards Berankis of Lithuania by 7-6, 0-6 and 7-5.
Marco Cecchinato of Italy received a walkover after his Argentinean opponent Guido Pella was forced to pull out of the tournament.
