World No. 1; Rafael Nadal was forced to retire from US open after his recurring knee injury.
This is the second time this year that he had to retire from a Grand Slam match.
Rafael Nadal is still determinant to say that he will fight for the titles at the highest level after he was forced to retire from US open defense suffering from knee injury.
Former World’s No. 1 was forced to proceed into the final of US Open after he lost the semi final match against Juan del Potro; the 2009 champion, in the first two opening sets with score 7-6 and 6-2.
Nadal was already suffering for the excruciating pain from his last year’s knee injury that recurred in his third round victory against Karen Khachanov. The same knee injury became much worse in his first set of the Friday match of semi finals.
Nadal said to media that, “I still have passion for the game. I am still going to work and hard and enjoy this tour. Other than this I am also going to keep having the chances to compete for highest level. So that’s all for now.”
Nadal was suffering from Tendinitis in between his career. This also compelled him in taking eight months off in between years 2012 and 2013.
Talking about his injury he told media, “The pain on the knee is very similar. The main problem this time was it was much more aggressive than before because movement was in one direction. I am aware of my problem and I know what is going on with my knee. The good thing here is that I know that as to how should I work to get better soon as we have lot of experience on it this time.”
