Reggie McKenzie, the Oakland Raiders general manager has been fired by the team after less than two years he was named s the NFL’s Executive of the Year.
McKenzie held this position for seven NFL season and was let go from his position after the day Oakland defeated Pittsburgh Steelers by 24-21 for the third win of the season.
McKenzie’s future was already looking doubtful after the head coach Josh Gruden was given a 10 years contract back in January for taking the charge of the team’s football operations.
McKenzie’s influence since then started to wane down as many players he acquired for the team were released by Raiders. Two of the most notable players let go were Amari Copper and Khalil Mack.
Gruden on firing of McKenzie said to media that, “I am not going to sit here today and talk about any disconnect. We were connected and we were good friends and we connected very well. I will leave it at this”.
McKenzie was the first major hire made by Raiders’ owner Mark Davis personally right after he took over the team after the death of his father in 2011.
The Raiders are currently 3-10 on the season and are tied with San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals for being the worst teams in the league this season.
