For his seven seasons with Chicago Bulls, Derrick Rose had been the favorite son of Chicago. He was loved because he was the native son of Chicago.
However, things turned bad for him as injuries began to pile up on him. He was traded off in 2016 and was welcomed with a serenade of boos when he returned to Chicago after few months.
30 years old player was hoping to right his new relationship chapter with his hometown on Wednesday night. Rose scored 24 points with 8 assists to help the Timberwolves win over the Chicago Bulls by 119-94.
He was loudly cheered by the sellout crowd of 21852.
Talking about the cheers, Rose said, “I did not expect it to be like this. It was overwhelming at some points. You can tell that the support is still there”.
Rose who was the top pick of the 2008 draft was named as the NBA’s MVP of 2011. He, who is now with Timberwolves, missed his last game with the team due to a sore ankle.
Due to many injuries, this was his fourth career game with Timberwolves against his former team Chicago Bulls. With this win, Timberwolves have won the second game in a row on road.
Karl-Anthony Towns of the Wolves scored 20 points with his 20 rebounds.
As for the Bulls, they were led by Zach LaVine who scored 28 points in his 26 minutes off the bench while Lauri Markkanen scored 16 points for the team. Before this game, Bulls had won two games in a row and three of their last five games.
Both former players of Bulls; Rose and Taj now with the Timberwolves; received loud ovations from the Chicago crowd as their introductions were called out.
Up next, Minnesota Timberwolves will play against Atlanta Hawks on Friday night whereas Chicago Bulls will play against the Washington Wizards on Friday night.
