Shanghai Masters; Novak Djokovic defeats Jeremy Chardy

Novak Djokovic has finally started his charge at his fourth Shanghai Masters tournament. To reach the last 16 at the event, Djokovic defeated Jeremy Chardy by 6-3 and 7-5.

31 years old Djokovic, who is aiming for the top of being world no. 1 by end of the year, gained a straight set wins against his French opponent in their 132th meeting.

Djokovic, who earlier won the US Open, last month, seemed unfazed by his opponent as he did not lose any break points and booked his next match with either Marco Cecchinato or Hyeon Chung.

Main Coilic defeated Nicolas Jarry in the second set to gain victory by 2-6, 7-6 and 7-5.

As for Thiem, he got defeated by hands of Matthew Ebden by 6-4, 6-7 and 7-6. With this win Ebden has secured his third win over a top 10 player.

Nikoloz Basilashvili, who won the China Open earlier on Sunday, continued on with his winning streak as her defeated Denis Shapovalov by 6-2 and 6-2 in just one hour. Nikoloz is up against Alexander Zverev n the next round.

Nikoloz after his game said to media that, “it actually is important that I won right after my China One success because it gives me confidence or my big game ahead”.

He further said, “Sascha is a very good player and it is going to be a difficult match but interesting at the same time. I relaxed and refreshed so I have no excuses to make”.

15th seed Pablo Carreno Busta was defeated by Benoit Paire by 6-3 ad 6-4 in their first round match. Paire’s next opponent is the Australian teenager tennis player Alex de Minaur who won over Vasek Pospisil by 6-4 and 7-6.
