Aryna Sabalenka; the top seed of the tournament gave herself a massive boost of confidence for the upcoming Australian Open coming next week by winning herself the Shenzhen Open’s final match on Saturday.
Sabalenka, whose performance dulled at the last year’s Wuhan and New Haven events, was able to catch her first title of the year with a fine comeback win against Alison Riske by winning the match by 4-6, 7-6 and 6-3.
Both of the final players managed to win their semi-finals matches but a rain disrupted the tournament schedule.
Sabalenka defeated the local favorite Wang Yafan by 6-2 and 6-1 while Riske won her first seven games against her Russian opponent Vera Zvonareva before she retired from the match due to her left hip injury.
In the final match, Belarusian showed an aggressive tennis play to show her difference from the opponent and then claimed the victory.
Sabalenka talking about her win said, “To start a season with a title gives you more belief in yourself. I hope that I also perform well at the Australian Open.”
The Australian Open is going to start on Monday, January 14th.
