Simona Halep said I her latest media talk that she was basking in her glory of being the No. 1 in the world rankings after she secured her year-end WTA No. 1 Spot for the second time in the consecutive year. However, she is now not sure about the year ending Finals of Singapore due to her back injury.
Simona, the Romanian star won her first Grand Slam event at the French Open along it securing titles like Shenzhen and Montreal which led her to the rankings for 40 weeks this year.
Now 27 years old Halep cannot make her appearance in the early January until when nine other players will have been world no. 1 for longer than her.
Halep told reporters in a media conference at the Moscow’s Kremlin Cup that, “I feel great. I feel very happy that I have made it to the top for two years in a row. It has been an amazing year which is the best year of my tennis career. To top it off, winning the Grand Slam makes it much greater and it will remain in my heart forever.”
Now the world no. 1 has been forced to be pulled out from the world rankings of the Kremlin Cup after she suffered from back problems.
She aid about her injury that, “I tried everything to be ready for the play. However unfortunately for me, the back is still causing me pain and I don’t want to take any unnecessary risks. It is indeed disappointing to withdraw from an event but my health comes first”.
