The boxing match of Sunday night between the former lightweight belt holders; Humberto Soto and Brandon Rios ended with unanimous decision points win for Soto in Tijuana, Mexico. The match was being fought for the Super Welterweight title.
28 years old Soto aka “The Crafty Little Fox” was able to land clean and fast punches on his opponent to offset Rios’ aggression as he won the fight by scores of 119-111, 118-112, 118-112.
Soto was coming to this fight with their being talks that this could be the last professional fight of his career which has spanned for now more than 22 years. However, he still proved that age is just a number and he can still compete. As for Rios, this was the fifth loss of his career.
The early few rounds saw Soto building up early lead on points as he landed punches on Rios’ body with continuity which only intensified in the final moments of the opening five rounds. These rounds were the decisive one as they built up the margin of victory for Soto in the end.
Rios, who earlier won over the brother of Saul Canelo Alvarez; Ramon Alvarez in his last fight in November, tried his best to show his relentless rigor as he landed his fair share of punches. In the end, the fight did not go exactly as how he had planned
