The most anticipated boxing match of the year between Anthony Joshua and Steve Povetkin for the World Heavyweight title is going to be refereed by Steve Gray.
Steve Gray; the British referee is going to oversee the fifth fight of Anthony Joshua officially.
Povetkin’s promoter; Eddie Hearn said that “World of Boxing is happy with a British referee.
For the world title fights that are fought on the British soil, the visiting fighter can request for a referee from a neutral country. For example for the fight between Joshua and Wladimir; American referee David Fields was appointed.
The Italian referee Giuseppe Quartarone suffered from major criticism following his referee role during fight between Joshua and Joseph Parker.
Edie Hern told media that British referees are the best in the world.
Lancashire based referee Gray is going to referee this year’s most hyped match. He has previously reefed for the fights of Joshua against Matt Legg, Matt Skelton, Konstantin Airich and Eric Molina.
In addition to this he has recently refereed for the return match of Tyson Furyk against Francesco Pianeta.
