Target Liverpool, Brentford & Bournemouth – the FPL talking point

As the Fantasy Premier League season moves into its decisive phase, managers are beginning to carefully shape their squads with greater strategic intent. With the campaign entering the business end, every transfer and captaincy decision can significantly influence rankings in mini-leagues and overall standings. Fixture schedules now play a crucial role, and identifying teams with favourable upcoming matches can be the key to gaining an edge over rivals.

One of the biggest talking points among Fantasy managers right now is whether investing heavily in Liverpool FC assets could be the smartest move to climb the leaderboard. With a promising run of fixtures ahead and signs of improved performances on the pitch, Liverpool players are becoming increasingly attractive picks for FPL squads. Analysts and Fantasy experts, including contributors from the BBC Sport FPL Podcast, have highlighted that the Reds appear to be regaining momentum at a crucial stage of the season.

Liverpool’s recent performances suggest they have turned a corner, especially after an impressive away victory that boosted both confidence and attacking fluidity. Defensively, Virgil van Dijk stands out as a premium option due to his reliability, leadership, and consistent minutes. For managers working with tighter budgets, Ibrahima Konate offers a slightly cheaper alternative while still providing access to Liverpool’s defensive stability and clean-sheet potential.

In midfield, there is an abundance of appealing choices. Mohamed Salah remains one of the most explosive Fantasy assets despite his high price tag, as his ability to deliver goals and assists consistently makes him a captaincy contender in almost every gameweek. Meanwhile, Dominik Szoboszlai and Florian Wirtz provide mid-range options that balance affordability with attacking returns. Their involvement in Liverpool’s forward play and creative contributions make them valuable selections, especially for managers seeking differential picks.

Striker Hugo Ekitike has experienced a dip in form recently, which has led to some hesitation among Fantasy managers. However, his overall record of goals and contributions earlier in the season indicates strong potential for a resurgence during a favourable fixture spell. With double-digit goals already to his name in limited starts, many experts believe he could rediscover his scoring touch and reward patient managers who keep faith in him.

Former midfielder Leon Osman, speaking on a Fantasy podcast, even admitted that he reluctantly included a Liverpool player in his own team due to their improved form. He specifically highlighted Florian Wirtz as a dependable option who has consistently contributed with goals and assists. Interestingly, Wirtz’s reliability this season has even drawn comparisons with Salah, which is unusual given Salah’s long-standing dominance as Liverpool’s primary Fantasy asset.

While Liverpool dominate much of the conversation, they are not the only club with a favourable fixture swing. Brentford FC are another side being widely recommended for Fantasy investment due to a promising schedule in the coming weeks. The standout option from Brentford is striker Igor Thiago, who has been in impressive scoring form and also takes penalty duties. His tally of goals this season, combined with guaranteed minutes, makes him a strong candidate for managers seeking a reliable forward.

Beyond Thiago, there are several differential options who could provide excellent value. Dango Ouattara and Kevin Schade have both shown attacking potential and could deliver strong returns at relatively affordable prices. Their ability to exploit weaker defences during this favourable run of fixtures could make them valuable short-term additions for Fantasy squads.

At the defensive end, goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher has emerged as a noteworthy pick. His shot-stopping ability, including multiple penalty saves this season, adds to his appeal as a budget-friendly goalkeeper option capable of producing high points through saves and clean sheets. Stat-focused analysts have also suggested defenders such as Nathan Collins, Michael Kayode, and Sepp van den Berg as viable options, depending on budget and team structure.

Another club attracting attention due to their advantageous schedule is AFC Bournemouth. Their next four fixtures are widely considered among the most favourable in the league, making their players attractive targets for Fantasy managers seeking short-term gains. One of the standout budget options is defender James Hill, who has been quietly accumulating points through assists, defensive contributions, and bonus points. His low price combined with consistent returns makes him an excellent enabler for those looking to strengthen other areas of their squad.

Young talent Eli Junior Kroupi is also gaining recognition as a budget-friendly attacking option who could offer value if given sufficient minutes. However, for managers willing to spend slightly more, striker Evanilson appears to be the more secure pick due to his higher likelihood of consistent playing time and goal involvement. Guaranteed minutes are a crucial factor during this stage of the season, as rotation risks increase across many clubs.

In midfield, Bournemouth offer additional low-cost options such as Rayan and Amine Adli, both of whom provide flexibility for managers trying to balance their budgets. Between the two, Rayan may have a slight edge due to his recent involvement in attacking moves, though the difference remains marginal and team structure may ultimately dictate the decision.

The broader strategy at this stage of the Fantasy season revolves around fixture targeting and squad optimization. Rather than relying solely on season-long performers, experienced managers are now shifting focus toward players with favourable short-term schedules. This approach allows them to maximize points potential during crucial gameweeks while maintaining flexibility for future transfers.

Another important factor is team form. Clubs entering a strong run of performances often deliver more consistent Fantasy returns compared to those struggling for results. Liverpool’s improved attacking rhythm and defensive solidity, Brentford’s goal-scoring consistency, and Bournemouth’s favourable fixtures collectively make them prime targets for Fantasy investment.

Additionally, budget management remains a central challenge. Premium assets like Salah can consume a large portion of the budget, forcing managers to identify value picks elsewhere in the squad. This is where mid-priced and budget options from teams with good fixtures become particularly valuable, as they allow for balanced team composition without sacrificing points potential.

Differentials also become increasingly important during the latter stages of the season. Selecting players with lower ownership who are entering favourable fixture runs can provide a significant advantage in mini-leagues. Options like Ouattara, Hill, or Wirtz may not be in every squad, but their potential returns could help managers make significant gains in rankings.

Ultimately, there is no single guaranteed formula for success in Fantasy Premier League, especially as the season reaches its climax. However, carefully analysing fixtures, team form, player roles, and price value can significantly improve decision-making. Managers who proactively adapt their squads to fixture swings and emerging form trends are more likely to see positive results.

With the competition intensifying and league tables tightening, the coming gameweeks will be crucial. Investing in players from teams with favourable schedules, particularly Liverpool, Brentford, and Bournemouth, could prove to be a decisive strategy. As always, balancing premium stars with smart budget picks and calculated differentials will be key to achieving a strong finish in Fantasy Premier League.
