In the latest news, the Spanish Police is currently investigating 28 professional tennis players for the suspected match-fixing charges. One of those 28 players even played at last year’s US Open tournament.
Authorities, at the time, have not disclosed the names of the players that are under investigation that they got after dismantling an Armenian organized group that bribes athletes for betting.
According to police, 15 people have been currently arrested in the house raids and in them, some are also tennis players.
During the raid, luxury vehicles, a shotgun, credit cards and cash worth of 167000 Euros was also seized.
According to the European Union law enforcement agency Europol, which supported this raid from Spanish Police said, “at least 97 matches from low tier “Futures” and “Challenger” tournaments were fixed.”
